Project Description
Building on the momentum of its inaugural edition, Apni Shala and Ummeed Child Development Center continued their advocacy for inclusive education and social-emotional wellbeing by hosting the second SELebrating Inclusion Summit (SIS 2022). The first summit’s success, drawing over 600 participants from diverse sectors including organizations, schools, policymakers, families, and mental health professionals, laid a strong foundation for further engagement.
SIS 2022 aimed to advance the conversations initiated in the previous summit, which focused on developing inclusive systems, integrating SEL in public education, addressing diverse learner needs, and scaling SEL and inclusion efforts. This year, the focus shifted towards highlighting existing initiatives and actions in the realm of inclusion and SEL for children and young people. The summit also sought to explore the intersection of inclusion and SEL in greater depth, uncovering the synergistic possibilities.
Bringing together stakeholders from across India and beyond, SIS 2022 was informed by rich discussions from three preceding smaller gatherings. This iterative approach ensured the summit’s design effectively addressed key themes and built upon prior insights. The second edition promised to be a significant step in showcasing tangible progress and fostering deeper understanding of the powerful connection between inclusion and social-emotional learning.
