Project Description
Apni Shala and Ummeed Child Development Center successfully presented the third SELebrating Inclusion Summit (SIS 2023), centered on the critical theme of “Culture, Policy and Practice” in the integration of SEL and inclusion within education. Building on the strong foundation of the previous two summits, which collectively engaged over 1000 participants from diverse sectors – including organizations, schools, policymakers, families, and mental health professionals – SIS 2023 aimed for a deeper exploration of systemic change.
The summit strategically advanced prior discussions on inclusive systems, SEL in public education, and equitable access for diverse learners. This year’s focus specifically addressed the foundational role of culture in shaping educational environments, the impact of governing policies, and the tangible practices that facilitate SEL-informed inclusive education.
SIS 2023 effectively convened a wide array of stakeholders from India and beyond, fostering a dynamic exchange of knowledge and experiences. The design of the summit was thoughtfully informed by insights gleaned from dedicated sessions with the Community of Practice members who emerged from the earlier Summits. This collaborative approach ensured that SIS 2023 provided relevant, actionable insights into the intricate interplay of culture, policy, and practice in realizing truly inclusive and socially-emotionally supportive educational experiences for all children.
